Otto A. Roell, 79, Batesville, died at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Friday, Nov. 16, 2007.
The son of the late Otto G. and Clara (Merkel) Roell was born in Ripley County May 30, 1928. On Aug. 5, 1950, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Peter's, he married Rita (Jaehnen) Roell, who survives.
The 30-year Batesville Casket Co. Hoegeman Plant press operator and supervisor enjoyed gardening and winemaking. The Knights of Columbus Council 1461 Fourth Degree Knight was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and Batesville Golden Citizens.
Other survivors are two daughters: Regina Meyer, Batesville, and Melissa Schneider, Sunman; five sons: Robert Roell, Greensburg, and Melvin, Dennis, William and Steven Roell, Batesville; one brother: Raymond Roell, Batesville; 24 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a son: Joseph Roell; a sister: Adeline Jaehnen; and five brothers: Cornelius, Lawrence, Alexander, Maurice and Elmer Roell.
Visitation is Sunday, Nov. 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 1 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Duvelius will officiate the funeral Monday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Gibault School or Batesville EMS 10.
