She was born in Spangler, a daughter of the late Matthew Q. and Rilla A. (McAnulty) Baker. She was twice married: first to James C. Keen Feb. 23, 1946. He died March 5, 1957. She then married Francis R. McCloskey Sept. 15, 1961. He died April 29, 1984. She is survived by four nieces and nephews: Richard Dibert, George Baker, Jane Dibert and Janice Mardis; and many great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Frederick, David and Paul Baker; and a sister, Ruth Dibert. Mrs. McCloskey was a 1941 graduate of Woodbury High School and a 1944 graduate of Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She did private duty and general duty nursing at Altoona Hospital. She retired in 1986 as an industrial nurse from Butterick Co. after 15 years of service. She was a member of Hick's United Methodist Church, Duncansville. She was a member of Altoona Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and the AARP. After her retirement, she worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross program. There will be a private family viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home, 1218 Fourth Ave., Duncansville (www.LiebegottBrown.com). A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at Hick's United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Rich Morris. Interment will be in Dry Hill Cemetery, Woodbury. | 3274 | Louis was born in Fort Washington, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania on May 2, 1882. His parents names are unknown at this time. Louis married Rosa Katharine Obenland in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in sometime before September, 1918. Rosa is listed on his draft card. On September 14, 1918, Louis registered for the WWI draft. He is described on his draft card as being of medium height and build, with gray eyes and brown hair. He was working as a welder. His employer is illegible on the draft card. The couple had one son, Louis Jr., who was born on June 20, 1921 in Pennsylvania. The 1930 Census lists Rosa, Louis's wife and their son in Lower Gwynedd, Maryland. They were living with Rosa's mother. Louis is not listed with them, but Rosa is married. At the time of this census, Louis was an inmate in the Eastern State Penitentiary in Skippack Townhship, Montgomery County, Pennsyvania. He was convicted of statutory rape and sentenced on 9 Feb 1929 to a fine of $100 and 4-8 years in prison. The record shows he was 46 years old. He arrived at the prison on 16 Feb 1929 and left there on 21 Feb 1931, having completed 2 years of his sentence. In 1942, Louis registered for the draft. The family was living in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, at the time. Louis passed away in July, 1964 in Pennsylvania. His last residence was in Lansdale, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. According to the 1900 Census, Louisa's parents both immigrated from Germany to the United States in 1865. No passenger lists have been found for either Charles or Friedericka as yet. Charles and Friedericka were married in 1866. Louisa was their third child. She had two sisters, Julie and Frieda and two brothers, Gustave and Charles. Louisa's father worked in a brewery for awhile and then either owned a hotel or was employed by one. Louisa grew up in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. On May 25, 1893, Louisa married a German immigrant, Johann Georg Kraemer. He would be known in the United States as John George. The marriage took place in Manhattan County, New York. The marriage certificate is #6634. The couple had at least one child, a daughter they named Louisa. She was born on October 4, 1893 in Brooklyn, New York. Sometime before 1937, Louisa and John moved to Cumberland County, North Carolina. It was there on March 5, 1937 that Louisa passed away. She was buried in Cross Creek Cemetery #3 on March 7, 1937. | 3276 | Louisa, or Lulu, as she was called, was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 4, 1893. She was the daughter of John George Kreamer and his wife, Louisa Pauline Obenland. John George was a German immigrant, arriving in the U.S in 1892. His name in Germany was Johann Georg Kremer. Her mother, Louisa Pauline, was the child of German immigrants as well. Louisa married George Frederick Gahr in about 1920. The couple had at least one child, Emily, born on August 21, 1924 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The 1930 Census lists the family at 305 Green Street in Fayettelville. They were renting for $35 per month. Louisa was a housewife and Fred was a salesman of "gentlemen's furnishings." Louisa passed away on December 16, 1964 at home in Fayetteville. She was buried three days later. Her middle name was either Frederike, Frederika or Frieda. | 3278 | Lt. Col. (Ret) Billy Francis Chason was born on Jan. 25, 1921 in Lumber Bridge, North Carolina. He was the son of John C and Mary Clifton Chason. (Although the 1930 Census lists John as "Pete." ) He had an older sister, Mary Helen and a younger brother, Frederic Clifton. All three of the Chason children were born in North Carolina, as were their parents and grandparents. Billy enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 16, 1940. At the time, he was an automobile serviceman. He was not yet marrried. In 1948, Billy married Emily Marguerite Gahr. The couple had at least one son, William Craig, born in Cumberland Co., North Carolina. Billy was a Veteran of WWII. He begain his military career with the 30th Infantry Scotch Tiger Division based in Maxton/Laurinburg, North Carolina. He then was with the 8th Air Force, 381st Heavy Bomb Group, flying B-17's. Lt. Col. Chason was reported as a prisoner of war on Jan. 11, 1944, being detained in Germany for 16 months in Stalag I. He was assigned to the Pentagon in 1956. During that time, he was the chief pilot for then Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles. Lt. Col. Chason was President Dwight Eisenhower's first alternate pilot. After retiring from the Air Force in 1964, he worked in civil service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Lt. Col. Chason died on Oct. 28, 2004 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is buried in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.
