| 1790 | Carl was born in Oehringen, Jagstkreis, Wurttemburg, Germany on December 12, 1861. He was the son of Johann Jacob Obenland and Christine Rosine Foernsler. Sometime after 1882, Carl adopted his nephew, Adolph Gustave Obenland. In 1887, Carl and Adolph left Bremen on the steamship Rhein and arrived in October, 1887 in New York City. Carl's parents, Johann Jacob and Christine Obenland traveled to the United States with them. The entire family settled in Howard County, MD. There, on October 26, 1890, Carl married Christiana Katharine Goeldenboth, also a German immigrant. Carl and Christiana had 5 children. Their first child was born on March 6, 1883 and died 3 days later. Rose was born in August, 1891; Katharine was born on March 5, 1895; Arthur was born on November 3, 1897 and passed away on December 10, 1897. Caroline was born in about 1899. Carl died on December 22, 1899. He was buried with his two little babies and his father in Saint Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. | 1791 | Carl was the son of Adolph Obenland and his wife, Mary M. Dihle. Adolph was a German immigrant, coming to the United States at the age of 8 from Wurttemburg, Germany. Carl had one brother, George Russell, who died when he was 7 years old from tetanus. He also had a sister, Alma. The 1930 Census shows that Carl was living with his parents at 760 S. Remington Rd, Bexley, Ohio. Carl was 20 years old and single. He was working as a traffic clerk at a parking company. Carl first married Margaret Roan in about 1939. They had two children, Carl Thomas and Kathleen. After Margaret died in 1948, Carl married Helen Neil. The marriage took place on June 18, 1949 in Conneaut, Ohio. | 1797 | Caroline's parents are unknown at this time. She was born on October 22, 1834 in Gaisbuehl, Wuerttemberg, Germany. According to the Wuerttemberg, Germany Emigration Index, Caroline applied for emigration to the United States in March, 1858. She applied in the district of Backnang. The passenger list shows Caroline leaving Le Havre, France on the Asa Eldridge. She arrived in New York, New York on May 19, 1858. Traveling in steerage, she was accompanied by 15 year old Gottlieb Eisenmann, who was probably her brother or cousin. The next name on the passenger list is a girl, "Joh. Kronmuller." Her name was probably Johanna. It looks like she was 11 years old. Kronmueller is the maiden name of Caroline's future mother-in-law. It's possible, but not certain, that Johanna was traveling with Caroline and Gottlieb. It's also possible that Caroline met Johanna on the voyage. Maybe she met her future husband, David Obenland, because of a friendship struck up with Johanna while on the voyage to the United States. However they met, Caroline and David were married on August 13, 1859 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The wedding took place in Saint Michael's and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple had six children: Catherine, born April 29,1860; an infant who was born and died on June 18, 1863; Mary C. born May 15, 1865; Caroline, born May 6, 1867; George, born December 21, 1868; and David Jr., born in September, 1873. The Federal Censuses show that Caroline and her husband lived all of their married life in Gloucester County, New Jersey. David was a farmer, while Caroline took care of the home and family. Caroline passed away on July 24, 1896 in East Greenwich, Gloucester County, New Jersey. She was buried on July 27, 1896 in Eglington Cemetery. | Eisenmann, Caroline (I1197)
