1168 | Andrew was the son of Ephraim January and his wife, Sarah McConnell. He was born in the stone house in Jessamine County, Kentucky that his father built in He married Sarah Huston on December 31, 1816 in Lexington, Kentucky. They had about 14 children. Three of their children, Elizabeth, Isabella and Andrew died in May during the cholera epidemic of 1833. They died in Maysville, where the family was living at the time. Andrew was a prominent citizen and successful businessman in Maysville. He died in Maysville on June 11, 1877. He was probably buried with his wife in Section E of Maysville Cemetery, but as of this writing, I have no proof. | January, Andrew McConnell (I6841)

1178 | Anna Veronica Mullarkey was born in Girardville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were John and Mary Mullarkey (nee Joyce). There are quite a few ways of spelling the name Mullarkey: Mullarkey, Malarky, Malarkey, Mallarkey, etc.) Anna was baptized on April 2, 1882 at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Girardville. On the baptismal records her last name is spelled Mullarkey. Anna's Godparents were Michael Kilker and Bridgett Kilker. Anna's parents were both born in Ireland. Anna was one of 8 daughters and two sons born to John and Mary. The 1900 Census showed Anna living in Philadelphia at 634 S. 16th St. Her sisters Marguerite and Lauretta, and a brother, Joseph also lived there. (We think Joseph might be the son on one of the sisters, but we have no proof as of 2008.) Anna and her sisters were all listed as dressmakers. They had 5 lodgers and one servant, Gracie Plumb, a black woman. In Anna's trunk, her granddaughter found a large mother of pearl button. Scraped on the back of it is this: "Boston '96 Love my love shall ever be thine." Did Anna scratch this on a button, intending to give it to a beau? Or did one of her admirers give it to her? I guess we'll never know. Anna married Gustave Franklin Obenland on August 30, 1904 in Girardville, Pennsylvania. They had one child, a son they named Harold Edwin, born on July 3, 1905 in Birmingham, Alabama. Anna and Gus moved around quite a bit during their marriage. Records show them living in Birmingham, Alabama, Shreveport, Lousiana, Ft. Worth, Texas, Everett, Washington, Goldfield, Nevada and in California. The date of Anna's divorce from Gustave is unknown as of 2007. We do know that after the divorce, Anna lived in Richmond, Ccalifrnia and took in boarders. Sometime before 1947, Anna moved to Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California. I would assume the move was prompted by her desire to be closer to her son, Harold. The 1947 birth announcement for Michael, Anna's first grandchild, shows she was living in Inglewood, in care of her sister, Lauretta. When Lauretta died in 1949, Anna stayed on in Inglewood. I can remember going to her house in the 1950's and eating Campbell's Chicken Gumbo soup. I also remember her phone was an old crank one. She had quite a collection of beer steins on her dining room buffet. I can still see in my mind the old crank-up phonograph with the large horn in her bedroom. As an interesting side note, in the terms of Anna's divorce from Gus, she was awarded monthly alimony. When Gus died, he owed Anna $7,750. Anna was never able to collect anything from Gus's estate, because a relative of Gus's, Gus's new wife (?) (No record has been found of a marriage.) and her friend smuggled Gus's money and other valuable items out of the state of Washington and into California and Idaho. In return, the relative and his wife were given Gus's house in Pomeroy, Washington. A person with intimate knowledge of it all signed a sworn affidavit to that effect. Anna was either living in Long Beach or Inglewood, California at the time of her death. She is buried in the same grave as her son and surrounded by her sisters Lauretta, Rose, Theresa, Marion and Marion's husband, Hector Gillis. Anna left behind one son, Harold. She also had three grandchildren, Michael Edwin, Cecilia Ann and Laurie Lynn. | Malarkey, Anna Veronica (I2159)

1179 | Anna was the daughter of Joseph M. Truttman and his wife, Friederike Dorothea Obenland. She was born on April 26, 1887 in Kansas. She had a sister, Lydia, born in 1889 and a brother, Irwin, born in 1892. The 1900 Federal Census shows the family living in Clay Center, Clay County, Kansas. The family owned their home free and clear. Joseph was a "wooden wagon maker." Later, in subsequent census, he would list his occupation as a wheelwright. By 1910, the family was living at 704 W. 7th in Junction City, Geary County, Kansas. Anna was 22 years old and single. She worked as a stenographer for a bank. Her brother and sister were also living with their parents. Anna's mother, Friederike died in 1915. By 1920, Anna had moved to Independence, Montgomery County, Kansas. She rented a room from Robert and Kate Lewis at 400 E. Main St. Anna still worked as a stenographer. Anna stayed in Independence. Her father and sister came to live with her. By 1930 they all lived at 316 S. Fifth St. in Independence. Their rent was $20 per month. In the 1930 Census, Anna is listed as head of the household. She was 43 years old, single and a stenographer for a bank. Her sister Lydia took care of the house. By then their father, Joseph, was 77 years old and retired. Sometime around 1936, Anna's brother, Irwin was divorced. The Polk Directories for Independence, Kansas in both 1937 and 1939 list Irwin as living with his father and sisters at 615 S. 4th. Anna worked as a stenographer for Citizen's Bank. Anna passed away on December 16, 1963. She was buried on December 18, 1963. | Truttman, Anna Dorothea (I1314)

1180 | Anton was the son of Anton (Born in Baden) and Johanna Viellieber. Johanna's maiden name is unknown at this time. (Born in Prussia.) Anton was born in February, 1860 in Illinois. He had two sisters, Anna and Lizzie. In 1880, the Viellieber family was living in Akron, Peoria Co., Illinois. Anton Sr. was a farmer and his son worked on the farm with him. In about 1889, Anton married a young German girl named Friederika Obenland. She had come to the United States with her sister Maria in 1882. The couple had 6 children: Lydia, born in October, 1889; Samuel, born in September, 1890; Christian C., born in March of 1892; Marie Carolyn, born in November of 1893; Rosa, born July, 1896; and Emma, born inAugust of 1899. All of their children were born in Illinois. In 1900, the family was living on a farm in Rutland, Kane Co., Illinois. Anton, Friederika's husband, was a farmer, while she kept house for the family. Sometime between 1900 and 1910, they moved to White Co., Princeton Twp, Indiana. They couldn't be located in the 1920 Census; howerver, they were found in 1930, living at 484 North St., Elgin, Illinois. They owned their home, which at the time had a value of $3,500. Their children Samuel D., Rose J. and Emma F. were living with their parents in the house on North Street. Friederika was still keeping house, but Anton was then working as a night watchman at a shirt factory. Their son Samuel was also working as a night watchman, also at a shirt factory. Rose was working in the screw department of a watch factory and Emma was an inspector at a shirt factory. Daughters Lydia and Marie were married, with families of their own. Anton died on May 20, 1930. His Illinois State death certificate is #3450280. He was buried in Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin, Kane Co., Illinois.
