1089 Agnes was born in Northern Ireland in September, 1871.
According to the passenger list of the steamship the State of Georgia, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Magee.

Agnes arrived in New York on August 21, 1878. She came to the United States with her mother, Eliza (Elizabeth), brother Henry and sisters Sabina and Mary. Her father, Charles, must have been already here in the United States, as he is listed in the 1880 census.

On October 25, 1893, Agnes married Charles Obenland in Manhattan County, New York. The marriage certificate is #13716.

On FamilySearch, I found a record of this marriage, which showed Agnes's parents as Charles Magee and Eliza Curry. I then found marriage records for a Henry and a Sabina, both with the same parents as Agnes. This is how I verified that she was the Agnes on the State of Georgia passenger list.

Agnes and Charles had two children. Their daughter, Agnes Brooklyn, was born May 4, 1894. Little Agnes's middle name was Brooklyn because she was the first child born in the new 31st ward in Brooklyn after some city consolidation had been done.

Her birth was written up in the Kings County Journal at the time and then the story was repeated in the May 2, 1900 issue of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. It was reported that the Excise Commissioner, George B. Forrester, "felt so elated" that he gave the baby a $5 gold piece.

Her brother, Charles A, was born two years later.

The 1900 Census lists the family living on Surf Avenue in Brooklyn. They lived in what was the Culver Depot of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company. This was in the very heart of Coney Island. Charles was working as an inspector for the railway.

Charles and Agnes were living at 22 Surf Avenue during the 1910 Census. He listed his occupation as a depot master for the railway. She were still living at the Culver Depot.

By 1920, the family had moved, but they stayed on Surf Avenue. This time their address was 550 Surf Ave. According to Google Earth, this is where the New York Aquarium now stands.

Charles was killed while working in Brooklyn on June 19, 1929. An article regarding his death appeared in the Syracuse Herald in the evening edition on June 20, 1929. "Angered because he was prevented from boarding a congested street car with his wife and two children, a powerfully built man struck a blow to the jaw of Charles Obenland, veteran inspector at West Sixth Street and Surf Avenue, Coney Island, which killed him. The assailant and his family escaped in the confusion."

A longer article on the subject of his death was published in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle on the same day as the one in Syracuse.

After her husband's passing, Agnes lived with her daughter, Agnes, her husband Arthur Toppin and their son in Brooklyn. They lived in the house at 1427 E. 4th St., where she and her husband Charles had lived for the last few years of his life.

Agnes passed away on June 23, 1948. She was buried three days later in The Evergreens Cemetery.

1092 Albert is listed as a Senior and his son, as a Junior. The son's full name is Albert George Ralph Weintraut (according to his birth certificate.) If they were Senior and Junior, then it stands to reason that the father's full name would also include "Ralph". Weintraut, Albert George Ralph Sr (I4526)

1093 Albert registered for the draft for WWI on June 5, 1917. At the time, he was living at 215 Hill St., Elgin, Illinois. He was employed as a watchmaker for the Elgin National Watch Company. Albert was single at the time. He objected to the draft because of his religious convictions. He said he was a member of the Apostloic Christian Church. His description on his draft card shows him to have been of medium build and height, with blue eyes and black hair. It also says that he had a physical disability. Albert died one year later. (Ill. Death Certificate #0027637. Preiss, Albert Gustav (I555)

1094 Albert was born on June 13, 1900, in Kansas. His father, Henry, was born in 1859 in Switzerland. His mother's name was Friederika Wilhelmina Obenland, who was born in Wurttemburg, Germany in 1876.

Albert had two sisters, Marie and Marguerite. When Albert was a boy, the family lived in Durham, Ottawa County, Kansas. His father was a farmer.

On September 9, 1918, Albert registered for the draft for WWI. He was living with his mother at 323 N. 18th St. in Manhattan, Riley County, Kansas. He was a truck driver for Kansas State Agricultural College. Albert is described as of medium height and build, with brown hair and brown eyes.

On Marcy 25, 1920, Albert married Clatie E. Alexander in Jackson County, Missouri. I believe they were married in Independence.

The couple had one child, a son they named Francis. Francis was born on April 23, 1921.

In 1920, Albert was 19 and living with his parents. He was still working for the college as a truck driver.

The 1930 Census lists the family living in Zeandale, Riley County, Kansas. Albert was a farmer.

The last residence listed for Albert is on the Social Security Death Index. He died in December of 1973. He was living in Meridian, Jefferson County, Kansas.
