    Johanna was born in Ilsfeld,Wurtemburg, Germany on September 11, 1797. Her parents were Georg Frederick Obenland and Dorthea Maria Oehler. She was christened in the Lutheran Church in Ilsfeld, Wurttemburg, on September 12th. Johanna arrived in the United States on October 1, 1819 on the ship the Susquehanna. The voyage begain in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and ended in the Port of Philadelphia. Johanna met and married another German immigrant, August Emanuel Deininger. Their wedding was on June 12, 1821 in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reading, Pennsylvania. The couple had 10 children. Their first child was a daugher, Anna Maria "Mary" Deninger, born on December 4, 1823 in Bernville, Berks Co, Pennsylvania. C.F. Deninger came along next, his birth date unknown at this time. Jonathan O. Deininger was born in Womelsdorf, Berks Co, Pennsylvania on April 17, 1830. Their 4th child was also a son, Benjamin O. Deininger born in Pennyslvania on July 31, 1832. Augustus O. Deininger, their last child, was born in Pennsylvania in about 1838. Only five of the children lived to adulthood. The names of the children who died in their infancy or childhood are unknown at this time. Johanna's husband worked a candle maker and a marble cutter, while she kept house and looked after the children. The family lived in Philadelphia, New Berlin County and finally Centre County. Johanna died on April 20, 1861. She is buried in Union Cemetery in Millheim, Centre Co., Pennsylvania. By 1875, when her husband died, their family had grown to include 5 living children, 10 great grandchildren and 25 grandchildren.
