Her obituary reads as follows:

The funeral for Betty JoAnn (Mrs. Marlyn) Carlson of Sherburn, mother of Denise Martinson of Owatonna, was held Monday, March 31 at Sherburn Assembly of God Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. The Rev. Steven Nordyke officiated. Burial was at the Sherburn Cemetery. Mrs. Carlson died on Wednesday morning, March 26, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester. She was 67.

Betty Obenland was born on Feb. 23, 1936, in Danville, Ill., daughter of Andrew DeVore and Grace (Obenland) Houser. She received her education in Hoopston, Ill. On June 7, 1980, she married to Marlyn Carlson at Sherburn Assembly of God Church. After their marriage, they lived in Sherburn. Mrs. Carlson was a homemaker. She was employed at Univac in Jackson and later did daycare for various families in the Sherburn area. Mrs. Carlson was a member of the Sherburn Assembly of God Worship Center. She enjoyed her pets, dogs, Lucy and Lady, doing needlework, crocheting, puzzles, playing Yahtzee and going camping.

Betty Carlson is survived by her husband, Maryln; nine daughters, Vicky (and Doug) Wilson of Powell, Wyo., Janice (and Gary) Metz of Mt. Horeb, Wis., Denise (and Gary) Martinson of Owatonna, Nellie (and David) Pratt of Tucson, Ariz., Brenda (and Jim) Harris, Avondale, Ariz., Marsha (and Bob) Boers, Tempe, Ariz., Sandy Carlson of Sherburn, Connie (and Rod) Hinz of Granada, Valerie (and Randy) Stafford of Wells; her mother, Grace Houser of Danville, Ill.; a sister, Nellie Murphy of Minneapolis; two half brothers and a half sister; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and a nephew.

Visitation was held Sunday, March 30 at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, and an hour prior to the services at the church.
