Gotthilf was a German soldier during WWII. Back in the 1970's, Gotthilf's brother, Richard, told me that this brother was killed in Russia. In my research, I found that Gotthilf was reported missing on August 1, 1943 in the Kharkov region of Russia.

His granddaughter, Sigrid, told me that he was buired in the Lutheran Church cemetery in Bietigheim. She also told me that unless a person's family "renews" the contract, after a certain time, (maybe 20 years) the grave is resold and used again for someone else. I asked her what did they do with the bodies they disinter and she said she didn't know. So August's body might not even be in that cemetery any longer.
